Highway Encounter (Remake)

What's to come?
XenoXL
Yes, this has been coming for a long time. It's basically a graphical and feature update of Xeno 2002 and the gameplay has barely been touched, but if you're a Xeno fan, you'll want to check this out.
Penetrator
I'm fairly far on with this one, but there's quite a bit of tidying to do. It's an old side-scrolling shooter, and the original is still quite playable, though the move right key doubled as a fire button (quick presses fired a laser, holding down moved the ship right). The remake has 2 fire buttons for the lasers and bombs, which I'm sure you'll all find thoroughly enthralling. |
Release at last Monday 23 July 2007 |
| Tanks Online Beta released. Click on the link on the left to see. Can't write more. Need sleep. Zzzz. |

So close ... Tuesday 26 June 2007 |
| The music is nearly complete - just some work on the drums parts to do before the final mix. In-game sound is almost complete apart from 2 effects. The front-end is complete. Other than that, all that's left is testing. If this goes well, release could be by the end of the weekend. Failing that, the following weekend is an almost certainty. |

Tanks Online Testing Tuesday 19 June 2007 |
| Programming normally involves a little bit of testing as you go, but network games make this considerably trickier since you need simultaneous access to at least 3 PCs to test properly. Testing therefore threw up a number of bugs, with some of them appearing to be annoyingly intermittent. However, the worst is over and the game is now very stable, so it's now a run up the home straight. Play-testing, music, some sound effects, a slap of paint and some tinkering with the map editor and all will be done. |

Nearly There Thursday 07 June 2007 |
| All the main features of Tanks Online have been added though a bit of tidying is required. The menus need to be jigged about, music added and some thorough testing carried out. Looking good for a version 1.0 release in July. |

Update Monday 21 May 2007 |
| Just to let y'all know that I've now implemented an online server list to make it easy to connect to each other when you want to play. I've also started implementing other features so I can't release a version until those parts are cleaned up. |

When will I, will I be famous? Thursday 10 May 2007 |
| I can answer, I can answer that. There's a little article in page 98 of this month's (issue 37) Retro Gamer magazine which looks forward to the release of Tanks Online. Anyone want my autograph? Yours for £5 + P&P. That's £30. I learned that stunt from Ebay. |

Tanks Online work continues Thursday 03 May 2007 |
| It's taken some time, but I've reworked the network code for Tanks Online and it's now much more efficient. There were a ton of bugs but I've fixed the majority of these now (would like to say all, but you never can tell). If anyone reading this (is anyone reading this?) wants to help test, email me at bankie at bankie dot com. To help, you'll need an IRC client (so we can chat while setting up and discuss any issues) and be available around 8pm UK time on the evenings we decide to test. |

An update Monday 05 March 2007 |
| Just a quick update to reassure that I'm working hard. I announced a new project a few days ago on RetroRemakes.com which, although not a remake as such, has the retro vibe. It's a network tanks game, influenced strongly by Combat on the Atari and the tanks game from Wii Play. A playable version will be available to a select few in the next few days, and a general pre-release shortly after that. It's a bit rough round the edges right now and has only basic play, but if I were a marketeer, I'd call it an exciting start. More news in the very near future. |

Xeno work continues (slowly) Tuesday 30 January 2007 |
| This month I had some severe difficulties with the new version of Xeno. Attaching a second monitor so that I could do some severe debugging got to the route of the problem (and of course it ended up being something relatively simple), but I also discovered a new joystick bug in the process which I'm surprised no one reported when the last version was released. Maybe everyone just uses the mouse or keys ... I dunno. Anyway, as the title says, work continues, albeit slowly. More updates to follow. |

Happy New Year Tuesday 02 January 2007 |
| Happy New Year everyone! I've been refreshing myself with the Penetrator remake code and although you can play through all levels, there's still quite a bit of work to be done. Updates on this coming soon. |
